Once upon a time, there was an oak woods shaped like a crescent moon and set within a broad meander of the river Adige. The water gradually pared away the trees and left alluvial deposits as the course of the Adige shifted eastward, thereby creating rich and fertile land, protected to the north and exposed toward the south. Here, at Roveré della Luna, in the vineyards called Feldi, ripen the Chardonnay, Müller Thurgau and Traminer grapes with which Santa Margherita produces this exceptional white wine with a fairytale name.
Each variety is vinified separately and the matured wines are blended before bottling during the first week in February.
This wine is among the few in the Santa Margherita range to depart from the production philosophy initiated with Pinot Grigio and continued with many other varieties typical of the Alto Adige and the eastern Veneto. While the wine moves away from the attentive revaluation of single varieties pursued over the years, its makers have sought final results that guarantee the integrity of sensations that hark back to the origins.
Tasting notes The color is a limpid and crystalline straw yellow with greenish reflections. The bouquet offers the nose the immediate freshness and fullness of this white wine. The combination of the three varieties maintains its integrity with delectable scents of white flowers and fruit. Three elements are distinguishable on the palate: the floral hints of Chardonnay, the green apples and nettles of Müller Thurgau and the typical aromatic touch of grapefruit and roses of the Traminer. Those sensations are in perfect harmony and are supported by a good alcoholic structure. Only in the finish is there a slight prevalence of the latter variety, which assures longevity and vivacity.
Culinary suggestions Ideal with dishes based on fish, seafood and crustaceans that are not overly elaborate. The wine also combines with delicately prepared white meats and vegetables.
