Introduction

May, in the Catholic religion, is the month dedicated to the Madonna, while, for country people, it heralds the reawakening of nature. Our journey through the land of Chianti Classico unwinds amidst religious architecture, natural beauties and the lively celebrations established by Tuscan traditions. The hills of this renowned wine-producing district are at their best during this season: vivid colours further enhance the magnificent rolling countryside, where parish churches, farms and castles mark out the landscape, popping out, sometimes unexpectedly, from behind clumps of oaks and cypresses. Last but not least, May also means the Florence Music Festival (Maggio Musicale), an important event which brings opera, ballet and concert performances to this great city.

May Music Festival - Florence
The music festival that has been bringing not-to-be-missed operas, ballets and concerts to Florence since 1933. The months of May and June boast a particularly full calendar.

Wine and typical local specialities are the star attractions around which dozens of interesting events are organised in the villages producing Chianti Classico. Hillside by hillside, here is our calendar for the month of May.

May Flowers
"Welcome to May, welcome to the rose which is the poet's flower..." So sings a famous Italian singer-songwriter: a journey through the world of flowers and their meanings.
