Santa Margherita continues to pay tribute to the arts, having recently been one of the official sponsors of the prestigious Benefit Event Caro Luchino in honor of the grand master of Italian cinema, Luchino Visconti.
Venetian Heritage Inc and Isabella Rossellini hosted the gala on April 23rd, 2012 at the Pershing Square Signature Center in New York City. At the event, Richard Gere and Tilda Swinton performed live Guido Torlonia & Ludovica Damiani’s Caro Luchino, a theatrical tribute to Luchino Visconti for the friends and supporters of Venetian Heritage Inc, followed by a seated dinner, where Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, Prosecco and Chianti Classico Riserva were served.
This was the first and only performance in the United States, which had previously been performed in Italy and France to great critical acclaim.
Among the 200 attendees who joined Gere, Rossellini and Swinton for a seated dinner were Emilio Ambasz, Toto Bergamo-Rossi, Roberto Bolle, Alba Clemente, Cecile David-Weill, Alessandra Ferri, HRH Princess Firyal of Jordan, Luca Dotti Hepburn, Pierre Durand, Sandro Kopp, Lisa Immondino Vreeland, Chloe Malle, Peter Marino, Francesca Neri, Dianora Salviati, Beatrice Stern, Michael Stipe, Ines Theodoli Clark, Stefano Tonchi, Adrienne Vittadini and HRH Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia.
Venetian Heritage was founded in January 1999. Its mission is to generate interest in Venice and its artistic heritage and the restoration of Venetian art and architecture in Venice and other areas that formed part of the Venetian domain.
The funds raised from this evening will go towards the restoration of the Treasure Rooms Museum of the Church of San Salvador in Venice, and the restoration of the Façade of the Cathedral of Korcula, on the Dalmatian Coast in Croatia.
Caro Luchino is the first play of the Tribute to the Great Masters, a project by Ludovica Damiani and Guido Torlonia, recognized Special Project of the General Direction for Cinema of the Italian Ministry of Culture.
