Pinot Grigio Alto Adige Impronta del Fondatore Santa Margherita 2008 was awarded the Grand Gold Medal at the first edition of the Palio del Pinot Grigio competition, held at Rivalta in the province of Verona under the auspices of the Slow Food Valdadige Terre dei Forti convivium.
The distinction, which was shared by only three other competitors, confirms the superb quality achieved by a wine that strives, as do all the other products in the “Impronta del Fondatore” line, to embody the excellence of the Santa Margherita style.
Pinot Grigio Alto Adige Impronta del Fondatore, which made its debut earlier this year at Vinitaly, is the product of Santa Margherita’s winemaking expertise. Obtained from pinot grigio grapes grown on Alto Adige’s finest hillside vineyards, it is skilfully vinified to bring out the variety's signature suite of white-fleshed fruit-led aromatics while safeguarding the fresh taste and savouriness of its flavour profile.
This award is only the most recent in 2009, a year which has seen Santa Margherita receive numerous distinctions at competitions in Italy and abroad, including prizes for its Prosecco di Valdobbiadene “52”, Merlot Veneto Orientale 2007, Refosco Veneto Orientale 2007 and Dulcedo Lison Pramaggiore 2006.
