In
the heart of Tuscany lies a small zone, rich in history and tradition, where Chianti
Classico is produced. It extends from south of Florence to north of Siena,
among the Chianti hills to the east and the Pesa and Elsa river valleys in the
west. It embrances nine townships: Greve, San Casciano, Tavernelle, Barberino,
Radda, Gaiole, Castellina, Castelnuovo Berardenga and Poggibonsi. This area
encloses a multitude of natural variables that distinguish the products of the
various zones. The soil ranges from limestone to lamellar, while the climate is
cooler and more humid among the hills rising between the Pesa, Greve and Arno
river valleys and drier and warmer in the hills opening toward the broad Siena
basin. Fattoria Vistarenni
is located in the township of Gaiole (Siena province), while Fattoria
Pile e Lamole is in Greve (Florence province).
